E-Patent Application

The service for electronic filing of applications and subsequent submissions in the field of patents (E-patent Application) enables users to electronically file applications and subsequent submissions in the following proceedings conducted before the Institute for Intellectual Property of Bosnia and Herzegovina:

- patent grant,

- grant of a consensual patent,

- registration of an extended European patent and

- issuing a supplementary protection certificate.

After the completion of the procedure for Bosnia and Herzegovina's accession to the European Patent Convention (EPC), users will also be able to electronically file European patent applications through the E-Patent Application Service, while with the beginning of the application of the new Law on Patents in 2027, electronic filing of applications for the recognition of a utility model as a new institute in the field of invention protection will be enabled.

The terms of use of the service for electronic filing of applications and subsequent submissions in the field of patents are defined by the General Terms and Conditions for the use of the E-patent Application Service available in Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian.

In order to use the E-patent Application Service, it is necessary to have a valid qualified electronic signature, as well as a username and password, which are assigned by the Institute based on the user's request.

Documentation required for the assignment of credentials (username and password):

1. Request for the Assignment of a Username and Password for the Use of the E-Patent Application Service (in Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian)
2. Statement of Acceptance of the General Terms and Conditions for the Use of the E-Patent Application Service (in Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian)

The Request and the Statement must be submitted in paper form to the protocol of the Institute for Intellectual Property of Bosnia and Herzegovina or via e-mail. In the case of submitting the Request via e-mail, the Request form must be electronically signed using a qualified electronic signature.

After the request is positively resolved, the username and temporary password are delivered to the user via e-mail to the e-mail address specified in the request. The user is obliged to change the temporary password when accessing the Application for the first time.
